Stephen Hawking is one of the greatest scientists in the world and the second greatest physicist in the world after Albert Einstein. He had made important discoveries in the fields of cosmology and mathematics. He was born in England in 1942, exactly 300 years after the death of Galileo Galilei.
Although Hawking was diagnosed as having Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis also known as ALS and he is almost entirely paralyzed and he is in a wheelchair for over 40 years, he continued his research and his work. Hawking is often compared with the greatest theoretical physicists Newton and Einstein due to his work in developing new theories and theorems in fields like general relativity, black holes, mechanics and others. He received lots of science and honorary awards like: Albert Einstein Medal, Companion of Honor and Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States.
Because of his discoveries and because he is maybe the greatest scientist of our times, Hawking is on the top of the celebrity list who will host the new show on Discovery Channel named Curiosity. It doesn`t exist a more suitable person to answer questions about the Universe then this brilliant mind. In addition to the astrophysicist, Stephen Hawking there will be other hosts of this series who will appear in the following episodes like: Morgan Freeman, Michelle Rodriguez, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Robin Williams.
Curiosity , the new Discovery Channel`s series is a more like a scientific show that answers in a series of 60 episodes to the most hard to answer questions that all the mankind asks like : who created the universe, how do certain phenomena happen or if time does really exist. There are questions from the following fields: science, technology and society.
The series had the premiere yesterday, August 7 and had lots of viewers, so the beginning of the fall season was a success for Discovery Channel. The first episode had as topic one of the biggest questions of all: “Did God Created the Universe?” This fascinating topic was analyzed by Stephen Hawking, a genius in the field of cosmology.
This controversial subject because the scientific opinions don`t match the religious opinions on this topic which involves both science and religion. The question is very hard to ask even by the greatest geniuses because those who try to answer it involve their personal opinions and it is hard to be objective. Some of the viewers of the first episode which was on air last night said that the explanations given bring nothing new on this subject and others say that a better title of the episode should be Stephen Hawking`s explanations for not believing God exists. He is not the only scientist who claimed that God doesn’t exist and he is not responsible for the creation and due to this kind of statement he scandalized the Catholic Church just like other scientist did.
So, if you are looking for answers or you are curious to find out new things about the Universe and not only or maybe you want to find out what new theories or discoveries appeared, don`t miss Curiosity on Discovery Channel, every Sunday at 9 PM!
