Welcome to WordPress
July 18th, 2011WordPress is one of the most popular websites to create blogs. Whether you sign up using the .com service or download software through the .org service, you’re on the dashboard, looking around, and feeling overwhelmed. Don’t get discouraged; it’s easy.
On the left hand side of the screen listed from top to bottom is: dashboard, posts, media, links, pages, comments, feedback, polls, appearance, users, tools, and settings. The dashboard is your homepage, giving out a summary of your site and everything going on in WordPress. The posts are where you write the blogs, add new ones, organize, and see what goes on with your previous ones. The media section is where you can upload pictures and video and store it until you are ready to include them in your blogs. Links are where you store hyperlinks to websites until you’re ready for them to be seen. Pages are web pages you want to add besides your blog, like an about you page, a photo gallery, subpages, and more. Comments and Feedbacks are where you see responses from the public and where you write back. Polls are where you can create polls through Polldaddy.com. Ratings are where you allow the public to grade anything from the blogs to the comments. Appearance is another word for Themes. Themes are how your blogs will look with a certain background that you choose. The users section includes your profile, people who use this account, password changing, and more. The tools section is for the experienced, but for novices this has options on deleting your site. The Settings section includes everything from switching your email to adding a personal domain.
The top bar contains: account, blog, info, subscribe, add new and a search bar. Upgrades from the .com site include paying for no ads or space upgrades. Dot org Plugins are add-ons to your dashboard –you can add, add to, or disable a function you want. Plugins can also make your website more efficient.
You can view, edit, rearrange, or delete anything that’s not to your satisfaction. With WordPress, you’re in control of the site.
